The goal of this project is to develop, implement and validate a GNSS-R module for the snow microwave radiative transfer model (SMRT). The objectives are to: 1) provide a review of existing applications of GNSS-R to cryosphere environments and summarize models for simulating GNSS-R delay doppler maps (DDMs); 2) develop a GNSS-R module for SMRT which can be used for cryosphere targets; 3) validate the module using multiple satellite sensors across different cryosphere environments; and 4) provide a roadmap for further development and exploitation of the simulator for further investigation, such as in the context of the ESA’s upcoming HydroGNSS mission.
