The European Space Agency (ESA) and the Antarctica InSync coordination team are inviting the global scientific community to participate in the upcoming International Antarctica InSync Science Webinar. This online event aims to provide an in-depth update on the progress and future plans of the Antarctica InSync programme, focusing on establishing working groups centered around key scientific themes.
About Antarctica InSync
Antarctica InSync is a UNESCO-endorsed programme under the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030). The initiative aims to conduct synchronous, year-round, and circumpolar scientific observations in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean between 2027 and 2030. These efforts are designed to enhance our understanding of the interconnected dynamics between ice, ocean, atmosphere, climate, environment, and life in these regions.
Given the rapid changes occurring in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, and the challenges posed by their remoteness and extreme conditions, Antarctica InSync emphasizes the importance of international collaboration. The programme seeks to fill critical knowledge gaps identified by scientific communities such as SCAR and SOOS, contributing to better prediction, action, and protection strategies. ESA will reinforce the satellite EO component of Antarctica InSync and ensure coordination with other space agencies and partners.
Get involved
The Antarctica InSync initiative is open to all entities willing to contribute, including countries without Antarctic infrastructure, foundations, NGOs, and businesses. Many Antarctic scientific research institutions and national programmes have already joined the effort. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the official website to explore the growing list of partners and national committees.
