Learn about the use of EO in reaching the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger: ‘End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture’
The first parts of this Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) are out now! Further modules will be sequentially released until the end of 2023.
The MOOC is developed by the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and Ruhr University Bochum with a community of stakeholders including ESA. It will give you insights on the potential of remote sensing technologies to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger: ‘end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture’. The course is hosted on the dedicated online EO education platform EO College.
Over the past decade, the world made progress in reducing global hunger, but it is again on the rise due to climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic, wars and conflicts, and environmental and socio-economic crises. With the rapidly increasing amount of freely available data and tools, EO is a great way to understand and analyze global challenges such as hunger.
Towards Zero Hunger reflects a broad range of topics and methods around SDG 2. It offers a diverse array of hands-on tutorials to empower learners with the abilities to take action towards the goal. The MOOC utilizes adaptive learning. This means that learners with different skills, objectives, and desired learning outcomes are enabled to follow their individual learning paths, suiting their own needs. The learners can choose their thematic focus from the different food production practices, and follow the modules of their interest.
