Virtual Training and VMs delivered to African Institutions

In October 2020 ESA contributed to a training event on EO for seasonal agriculture monitoring in North Africa. The virtual training was organised by the African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in French Language (CRASTE-LF), in collaboration with OSS North Africa Consortium and GMES&AFRICA partners. More than 20 experts from 8 different organisations attended the event during which ESA demonstrated the usage of cloud computing for Agriculture. Each attendee received a dedicated Virtual Machine running on DIAS and pre-installed with Sen2Agri and was trained on how to access and process Sentinel-2 data for Agriculture. A refresher was organised at the beginning of November to support the experts to exploit the assigned VMs using data over their zones of interest.

In 2021 ESA will kick-off EO AFRICA, an African-European R&D partnership aiming to facilitate the sustainable adoption of Earth Observation and related space technology in Africa.
