The EarthCODE team is pleased to announce the launch of the new EarthCODE Portal, a refreshed online space designed to strengthen Europe’s capacity for transparent, collaborative, and reproducible Earth System Science.
EarthCODE represents FAIR Science for Earth Action, and the portal allows users to create, find, and collaborate on Earth system science experiments, unlocking the full potential of Earth Observation for the benefit of society, from research to policy. The launch of the new portal marks a significant milestone in delivering a unified entry point to the tools, workflows, datasets, and community resources that underpin this effort.
The portal at a glance
The new EarthCODE portal provides a clear, streamlined user experience, enabling scientists, developers, and organisations to more easily explore and engage with EarthCODE’s expanding ecosystem. A simplified navigation structure guides users through key sections including:
- Ecosystem – an overview of the interconnected components, highlighting the Platforms that joined the initiative to support FAIR and open EO science
- Resources – documentation, guides, and learning materials
- Community – collaboration opportunities, discussion forum, scientific user communities and other engagement channels
- News & Events – official announcements and updates on scientific events featuring EarthCODE, technical trainings offered, and other related news.
- About – background on EarthCODE’s mission, goals and development.
Strengthening FAIR and reproducible workflows
At its core, EarthCODE is focused on supporting reproducible science. The portal brings together guidance and tools that help users publish, document, and share scientific assets developed on interoperable infrastructures and platforms from the NoR Portfolio. These assets range from datasets and source code to processing workflows and complete scientific experiments.
The portal showcases:
- Curated examples of data products and workflows
- End-to-end demonstrations of reproducible scientific experiments
- Practical guidance on publishing results in line with FAIR principles
- Clear pathways for integrating cloud-ready, standards-aligned services
Together, these elements are designed to support more transparent, interoperable research practices across the Earth science community.
Registered users can sign in to access integrated platforms and community resources via the EarthCODE workspace.
Supporting growth and future expansion
The new portal marks the beginning of the next phase of EarthCODE’s development. As ESA continues to expand its open-science capabilities, the portal will evolve with new features, deeper technical integration, and additional opportunities for community engagement.
EarthCODE is intended to remain a living, evolving environment, aligned with ESA’s long-term commitment to FAIR, transparent, and high-impact Earth System Science.
Researchers, partners, and members of the wider scientific community are invited to explore the new EarthCODE Portal at https://earthcode.esa.int.
