“Cubes and Clouds”: a new free online course on EO Open Data Science

Are you looking to enhance your skills in Earth Observation (EO) computing and open science? Join us for an immersive learning experience designed for Earth Science students, researchers, and Data Scientists alike.

What’s it About? ‘Cubes & Clouds’ delves into data cubes, cloud platforms, and open science in the context of earth observation. Through engaging videos, animated content, lectures, hands-on exercises, and quizzes, you’ll explore the entire EO workflow – from data discovery to processing and sharing results in an open and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) manner.

What Will You Learn? By the end of the course, you’ll grasp the theoretical concepts of cloud-native EO processing and gain practical experience in conducting end-to-end EO workflows. You’ll become proficient in using cloud platforms to address EO-related research questions independently and learn how to share your research following the principles of open science.

Duration & Structure: Spanning 30 hours in total, the course is conveniently divided into eleven lessons, each building upon the knowledge from the previous one. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced practitioner, this structured approach ensures ease of completion and flexibility in scheduling.

Learning materials have been developed and curated by a very knowledgeable team including Eurac Research, EOX IT Services GmbH, Jonas Eberle, EO College, and a long list of experts.

As a proof of your newly acquired skills, you’ll collaborate with fellow participants to create a community snow cover map, openly and FAIRly shared: Cubes and Clouds: Snow Cover STAC Collection.
