SUMMARY:ROSA/ESA/DLR - Radar Remote Sensing Course
DESCRIPTION:On 26 – 30 October 2009 the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA)\, ESA and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) jointly organised a training course in Radar Remote Sensing\, held in the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest. The objectives of the course were to provide training in radar remote sensing theory and applications to young scientists and university students from PECS countries (Romania\, Hungary\, Poland) who wished to expand and improve their knowledge and skills in radar remote sensing research. \nThe course included the following main components: \n\nTheoretical fundamentals of radar remote sensing and introduction to SAR applications\nPractical sessions using SAR data with focus on TerraSAR-X imagery for applications in water / oil detection and mapping\n\nIntroductory Presentations\nIntroduction to the course\nIntroduction to the DLR presentations and practicals\nThe Earth Observation programmes of ESA\nA short overview of the ENVISAT mission\nESA Earth Observation data access\nIntroduction to the Definiens software suite \nTheoretical fundamentals and introduction to SAR applications\nAn introduction to the International Charter “Space and Major Disasters”\nA reminder about SAR theory and applications\nIntroduction to radar interferometry\nActivations of the International Charter in Romania\nEmergency mapping and disaster monitoring \nPractical sessions\nFlood mapping exercise using the ESA NEST toolbox\nFlood detection using TerraSAR-X data\nOil spill detection using TerraSAR-X data \n
