SUMMARY:MAXSS 2023 : Marine Atmosphere eXtreme Satellite Synergy workshop
DESCRIPTION:Ifremer and ESA are organizing an International Workshop on Marine-Atmosphere Extreme Events that will take place from 3-5 April 2023 at Ifremer\, BREST\, FRANCE. \nThis workshop is being organized in the frame of the ESA Marine-Atmosphere eXtreme Satellite Synergy (MAXSS) project\, whose objective is to maximize the synergetic use of Earth Observation data to improve the observation and characterization of extreme wind events  and further advance the scientific understanding of how extreme wind events interact with the underlying ocean and impact all major Earth System cycles. During the project\, a number of activities have been performed\, including the development of global 10-year-long multi-mission wind products from the merging of different sensors\, the development of a 10-year Storm Atlas including Tropical Cyclones\, Extra-Tropical Storms\, and Polar lows\, and the implementation of scientific applications for ocean-atmosphere interactions. \nThe objective of the present workshop is to present the main outcome of the MAXSS project in terms of new products and scientific analysis\, review the state-of-the-art in existing methods and models for retrieving and monitoring ocean-surface extreme surface winds and storm-induced waves from space (current and future instruments)\, and collect feedback and recommendations from the scientific community and operational users for new initiatives to be implemented in the frame of the ESA EO Science for Society programme element. \nDeadline for abstract submission is 1 March 2023. \n  \n
