SUMMARY:ESA Training Course on Arctic Methane and Permafrost 2024 at Svalbard Science Centre\, Norway
DESCRIPTION:The European Space Agency (ESA) is organising an Earth Observation (EO) training course in collaboration with the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and the Svalbard Integrated Arctic Earth Observing System\, SIOS. \n \nThe course will take place from 9-14 September 2024 at the Svalbard Science Centre in Svalbard\, Norway. \nThe training is designed to promote and disseminate EO data and information-based solutions focussing on Arctic Methane and Permafrost. The programme will provide theoretical information followed by practical exercises and featured the use of Satellite data from different missions together with airborne and ground-based data together with process modelling and artificial intelligence. \nThe course will be held for researchers\, students\, PhD students and young professionals who use EO technology within their research or work and want to improve their knowledge of remote sensing. In total 24 students can attend the summer school. \nMAIN TOPICS: \n\nIntroduction to the ESA NASA Arctic Methane & Permafrost challenge\nArctic ecosystem science\nSAR & optical data focusing on permafrost regions\nActive & passive remote sensing of the atmosphere\nSynthesing Remote sensing\, modelling and in situ observations\nArctic Process Modelling & Artificial Intelligence\nScience Communication\n\nThe language of the course is English. Registration to the course is free. Participation is limited and subject to a selection process. \nRequired level of pre-existing knowledge in EO:\nBasic skills in both remote sensing and Arctic processes. \nCosts:\nAccommodation including breakfast is pre-arranged and covered by the organisers from Sunday to Sunday. Costs for course materials\, tea and coffee breaks are also covered by the organizers.\nIndividual travel expenses and additional expenses not mentioned above are the responsibility of the participants. \nRegistrations:\nApplications are open from 01 May to 03 June 2024.\nRegistration link \nNotifications:\nThe successful applicants will be notified by 17 June\, 2024.
