February 1, 2027 @ 09:00 - February 5, 2027 @ 13:00 UTC+2
ESA-ESRIN

ESA is organising the first-of-its-kind User Consultation Meeting dedicated to the application of satellite remote sensing for the development of a sustainable Blue Economy.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of the “EO for a Sustainable Blue Economy User Consultation Meeting” is to bring together remote sensing experts, service providers, and a broad range of stakeholders—including policymakers, industry representatives, researchers, and end users—to discuss the latest advances in satellite remote sensing technologies that support the sustainable development of the blue economy, including the monitoring of its environmental impacts and the development and implementation of environmental policies.
Participants will gain insights into the latest development in Space-enhanced Blue Economy solutions, engage in discussions on the integration of satellite remote sensing information into innovative solutions and decision-support tools, and contribute to identifying user needs and future priorities for satellite remote sensing data to advance the sustainable development, monitoring and governance of Blue Economy activities.
UCM STRUCTURE
The event is designed to be dynamic and participatory, featuring interactive sessions to showcase current capability of using satellite remote sensing technology in the different Blue Economy domains.
The EO for a sustainable Blue Economy User Consultation Meeting will include:
- Plenary sessions with invited speakers to present and discuss the importance of Earth Observations to support the sustainable development of the Blue Economy sectors, also covering policy-related aspects
- Thematic sessions (based on abstracts submissions) that will provide insights into the latest advancements in leveraging Satellite Remote Sensing technology, together with in-situ data and modelling tools for different Blue Economy sectors.
- Poster sessions providing a platform for participants to showcase their activities, facilitating networking and exchange of ideas.
- Demonstration slots (based on demo proposals) to showcase current tools and capabilities
TOPICS
The following key Blue Economy sectors are targeted, but abstracts addressing other emerging sectors are also welcome:
- Aquaculture
- Other (e.g. Water-Based Agriculture and Bioeconomy, mCDR, Marine Spatial Planning services, Ocean finance…)
- Environmental Impact of Blue Economy activities
DEMOs
Besides conventional oral and poster presentations, it will be possible to showcase specific DEMOs, targeting the topics below:
- Operational and Pre-operational services
- Digital Platforms and Decision-support Tools
- Innovative technologies and Research Developments
- Business Solutions and Commercial Applications
- Integrated Blue Economy solutions
- Success stories
- Capacity Building, knowledge transfer and User engagement
- Other relevant demonstrations supporting the sustainable blue economy
