SUMMARY:2nd Antarctica InSync International Science Webinar
DESCRIPTION:To accommodate participants across diverse time zones and ensure broad global engagement\, the webinar will take place over two days\, with each session offering the same core content. \nJoin us for a dynamic two-day online workshop to advance the scientific planning of Antarctica InSync\, an international initiative endorsed by the UN Ocean Decade. Aiming for a circumpolar assessment of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean\, the initiative explores the links between ice\, ocean\, climate\, environment\, life\, and human pressures. This interactive event will connect researchers\, early-career scientists\, and institutions to discuss innovative methods and define shared research priorities \n🔍 What to Expect: \n\nOpening plenary sessions introducing Antarctica InSync and outlining the workshop’s objectives\nBreakout discussions focused on cutting-edge approaches including:\n\nModelling and Artificial Intelligence\nRemote sensing\nShip- and station-based observations\nData systems and integration\n\n\nScience theme discussions focused on major Antarctic research themes\, including:\n\nSouthern Ocean & Antarctic heat\, freshwater\, carbon & other elements cycles & their response to climate change\nRapid sea ice decline and its causes and consequences\nMelting ice sheets and ice shelves and coastal impacts\nImproving knowledge and protection of the unique Antarctic life: from land to ocean and into the deep sea\nAnthropogenic signatures in Antarctica: the race against pollution and other pressures\nAerosol-cloud interactions and radiative feedbacks\nClimate variability: from local weather and climate extremes to global teleconnections trough time\n\n\n\n\nSynthesis session summarizing key outcomes and next steps for the international scientific strategy\n\nThis online workshop will lay the foundation for the international Antarctica InSync Science Plan. \n\n07:00-09:30 UTC\, Tuesday\, 9th September\, 2025\n15:00-17:30 UTC\, Wednesday\, 10th September\, 2025\n\nPlease register here if you are interested to join the webinar. \n
