SUMMARY:2nd ESA Advanced Course on Radar Polarimetry 2013
DESCRIPTION:The European Space Agency organised the 2nd Advanced Course on Radar Polarimetry which was held in ESA ESRIN\, Frascati\, Italy on 21-25 January 2013. \nPost graduate\, PhD students\, post-doctoral research scientists and users from European countries and Canada interested in Radar Polarimetry and its applications were invited to attend the 5-day course on the subject. Research scientists and students from all other countries were also welcome to apply and participate to the course\, subject to space availability. Participation was limited to a maximum of 60 students and subject to selection of application. \nNo participation fees were charged but participants were expected to finance their own travel and accommodation expenses. The official language of the course was English. \nThe main objectives of the course were to: \n\nTrain the next generation of European and Canadian Principal Investigators (PIs)\nExplain theoretical principles\, processing algorithms\, data products and their use in applications\nIntroduce available tools and methods for the exploitation of dual polarization and fully polarimetric data\nProvide first-hand and up-to-date information on the state of the art in Radar Polarimetry and Polarimetric SAR Interferometry.\n\nThe advanced course provided a substantial and balanced introduction to the basics and advanced concepts of theory\, scattering concepts\, systems and applications typical of radar polarimetric remote sensing. \nThe course included theoretical lectures as well as hands-on computing exercises exposing students to PolSAR and Pol-InSAR data processing for remote sensing applications\, illustrating mainly the use of PolSARpro software\, the ESA Toolbox for exploitation of EO SAR polarimetric data\, with a focus on full-pol spaceborne (ALOS\, RADARSAT-2\, TerraSAR-X) product. \nAccess here below the full programme. Course materials can be found on the original course website. \n \n
