SUMMARY:2025 Big Data Foundations for Earth Observation Training Course
DESCRIPTION:Background\n\n\nThe European Space Agency is organising a five-day Big Data Foundations for Earth Observation training course\, taking place in Riga\, Latvia. The course will offer a foundational exploration of the technologies\, workflows\, and business applications shaping the Earth Observation (EO) data landscape. Running from 22 to 26 September 2025\, it provides a practical springboard for participants attending the Big Data from Space (BiDS) conference the following week (29 September – 3 October). \nObjectives\n\n\nThe Big Data Foundations for Earth Observation training course aims to: \n\nEmpower participants as knowledge multipliers – particularly those in teaching roles – as part of ESA’s “Teach the Teachers” approach. Special emphasis is placed on capacity building across the Baltic region.\nEnsure that the participants have the fundamental knowledge in big data and Earth observation\, and their respective future trends\, to meaningfully and deeply engage in discussions and workshops during the Big Data from Space (BiDS) conference the following week.\n\nTopics\n\n\nThe training will include theory and hands-on sessions on the following topics: \n\nEO cloud platforms\, High Performance Computing (HPC)\, and data access\nPython-based processing workflows\nAI and foundation models for EO analytics\nApplications linked to the Green Deal\, security\, and SDG monitoring\nEO commercialisation\, entrepreneurship\, and innovation\n\nParticipation\n\n\nThe 5-day course will be held from 22 September to 26 September 2025 at the University of Latvia.
