SUMMARY:Trans-Atlantic Training 2024 (TAT-11): Earth Observation and Machine Learning for Disaster Mapping
DESCRIPTION:The deadline to register is May 31st\, 2024. \nTrans-Atlantic-Training (TAT) is a series of annual workshops and training courses in Earth Observation (EO)\, organized since 2013 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)\, the European Space Agency (ESA) and Charles University in Prague\, Czechia. \nTAT 2024 training: “Earth Observation and Machine Learning for Disaster Mapping” (TAT-11) will take place from 14 July to 17 July 2024 at Chania University in Chania\, Greece. \n  \nInformation: \nThe main objective of the NASA-ESA Trans-Atlantic Training (TAT) initiative is to provide educational activities for students and early career scientists in the field of Earth Observations\, with an emphasis on remote sensing of land-cover/use change and ecosystem dynamics. The purpose of TAT is to share and discuss advanced space research methods and technologies through a series of training workshops for early career scientists and students in Eastern/Central Europe. \n  \nThe topic of TAT 2024 (TAT-11) is “Earth Observation and Machine Learning for Disaster Mapping”. \nLeading experts from Europe and the US will present and discuss state-of-the-art advanced Earth Observation methods in the beautiful setting of Chania\, on Crete. Technologies and data from Copernicus\, ESA\, and NASA missions will be presented in tutorial lectures and practical hands-on training sessions. \nLectures and training activities will focus on SAR and optical passive satellite data for the mapping and monitoring of natural disasters including earthquakes and forest fires\, and the use of free and accessible cloud computing\, machine learning\, and Artificial Intelligence methods for analysing Earth Observation data. Working with different types of sensor data and their combinations will be demonstrated. \n  \nTAT-11 will be held in conjunction with the annual SCERIN and MEDRIN meetings\, held jointly 16-19 July\, 2024 in Chania. SCERIN and MEDRIN are informal regional information networks for scientists working with Earth Observation in South Eastern and Central Europe\, and the Mediterranean\, respectively. \nThe networks are organised in the the framework of the Global Observations of Forest Cover and Land Dynamics (GOFC-GOLD)\, working primarily on land applications such as land cover dynamics and forest cover. TAT 2024 will include the plenary of the SCERIN/MEDRIN meeting\, giving participants direct insight on the regional collaboration and work taking place in the field of global observation. \n  \nPractical information: \n\nThe course is at MSc/PhD level\, but is appropriate for enthusiastic BSc students as well.\nThe number of participants is limited.\nThe official language of the course is English.\nThe participation in the TAT 2024 is free of charge.\nParticipants are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation costs. However the organisers have secured local accommodation for participants at a low rate\nParticipants will use their own laptops.\n\n  \nProgramme and registration: \nto see the full programme\, teacher list\, and to register to the course\, please go to the official website.  \n  \nCover image: Restaurants in the old town of Chania on Crete\, Greece by dronepicr\, licensed under CC BY 2.0. \n
