SUMMARY:1st ESA Advanced Course on Radar Polarimetry 2011
DESCRIPTION:The European Space Agency organised the 1st Advanced Course on Radar Polarimetry\, devoted to SAR Polarimetry\, Polarimetric Interferometry and its applications.  The course was hosted in ESRIN\, Frascati\, Italy on 17-21 January 2011 and targetted PhD students from European countries and Canada\, interested in Radar polarimetry. Principal Investigators (PIs) and students from all other countries were also welcome to apply and participate to the course subject to space availability. \nThe main objectives of the course were to: \n\nTrain the next generation of European Principal Investigators (PIs)\nExplain theoretical principles\, processing algorithms\, data products and their use in applications\nIntroduce available tools and methods for the exploitation of ESA and other Dual-Pol and Full-Pol spaceborne data\nProvide first-hand and up-to-date information on the state of the art in Radar Polarimetry and Polarimetric SAR Interferometry\n\nThis advanced course provided a substantial and balanced introduction to the basic theory\, scattering concepts\, systems and advanced concepts\, and applications typical to radar polarimetric remote sensing. \nThe course included theoretical lectures as well as hands-on computing exercises exposing students to PolSAR and Pol-InSAR data processing for remote sensing applications\, illustrating the use of PolSARpro\, the ESA Toolbox for exploitation of EO SAR polarimetric data\, with a focus on full-pol spaceborne (ALOS\, RADARSAT-2\, TerraSAR-X) product. \nWithin the last day of the Course\, the status of present and future polarimetric spaceborne missions were also presented. \nThe team of lecturers was comprised of leading scientists coordinated by Prof. Eric Pottier from the University of Rennes1\, France. \nAccess here below the full programme. \n \n
